Yesterday, the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which heretofore prevented the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages,
was ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. Presently, thirteen states (California, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington), the District of Columbia and five Native American tribes have legalized same-sex marriage.
In light of our high court's decision, listen
to the strangely appropriate commentary by Isaiah at such a time as this.
"Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and uprightness cannot enter" (Isaiah 59:14).

ReplyDeleteChristians here in America have obviously not done their "due diligence" with regard to "seasoning" our culture with the "salt" of marriage relationships that testify sufficiently to the world of their Divine sustenance. The attractiveness of the Bride of Christ within our own marriages has dimished to such a degree that the world is looking elsewhere for a standard. So we have a nation that, according to one source, will have recognition of gay marriages on a federal level within five years...or sooner.
Another matter entirely, and which causes even a deeper grief, is the fact that so many people who go by the title of "Christian" when identifying their belief-system, are just as ready to sanction gay marriages--for "Christians" who are also gay.
The purity and sanctity of the distinctly masculine,Only-Begotten Son of God's relationship with His Wife--the magnificently beautiful and distinctly feminine woman known as "Ekklesia" or the "Church"--has been attacked and maligned by those who know better, from within the Christian fellowship. And I fear the Son's patience and longsuffering regarding this issue will wear out faster than we can imagine. Judgment will come and be swift and decisive, and aimed not nearly so much at the world and its sinful ways, but rather at those who identify themselves with the Church herself, yet who dismiss Her purity by endorsing the impurity and sinfulness of man's substitute for holy matrimony.
The Lord Jesus Christ will have purity, and the Glorious Church without spot or wrinkle that He is returning to take back to His Father's House is still alive, even though she is showing herself less frequently as time goes on. May we ourselves be part of that beautiful Bride!

VERY well said, Stan. Moreover, how sad that many young men and women, boys and girls who struggle with same-sex feelings will now feel empowered and invalidated to pursue their futile dream of marrying the right (or wrong) person!

ReplyDeleteDeVern Fromke's message from the early 1960's is now more appropriate than ever: all of life's decisions MUST ask the question "what is in it for God?" before going forward. Knowing and accepting the Scriptural standard for what is acceptable to God and what is not will go far in bringing young people's sexual proclivities under God's management. There is no guarantee of resolution within the feelings/ emotion continuum--IF that is the only factor. But there is so much more to the whole matter, and our confidence must be in God's power to save and keep than in our own abilities to fall and fail.
