At the end of life on earth, Jesus made it clear to Peter
that each of the disciples would have to run his own race. Peter looked back at
John and inquired about what kind of race John would have to run, Jesus simply
said, “when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted;
but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will
dress you and lead you where you do not want to go” (John 21:18). In other
words, He said “Stop looking at other peoples’ contests. Pay attention to your
own (Heb. 12:2).
What are you looking at today? Whose race are you watching? “Did you begin by fixing your eyes on Jesus?”
"...you follow Me..." from John 21 is one of my very favorite verses...it has reminded me for years now that, as you said, we first fix our eyes on Jesus and then we concern ourselves with our own race. Early on in my life I was so concerned with keeping up with others and their callings--but today I recognize one calling..."Abide in Me"...and that is the place from which all other assignments (that I used to confuse with callings) spring. Thank you so much for all your great teaching through the years. You have helped us to keep our focus on the place of God's purpose...and that brings great peace and strength to our souls as we rest in Him! ~roxane
ReplyDeletethough often misquoted, People without vision will perish. The primary task of the prophets is to call and then bring the people back to God. May God Bless you in your own localized prophetic ministry. I love you both and recognize you tireless labor on His behalf to the Body of Christ
